Party above the power station

The violent storm that raged over the Netherlands on Monday night left a trail of damage and destruction in its wake.

Starting at around 22.00 on Monday evening, the storm moved from the south to the north of the country, with wind gusts reaching 105 km per hour, and rainfall in some localities reached 55 millimetres.

Hailstones measuring 5 centimetres in diameter fell in Woensdrecht, and houses in different locations were struck by lightning. Traffic and public transport were still suffering from the after-effects yesterday morning, with branches blocking rails and flooding on motorways.
